BLUE RIDGE REGIONAL AIRPORT
Runway Extention Environmental Assessment
E&A also conducted the Environmental Assessment (EA) necessary to comply with federal NEPA guidelines for the future Runway 13-31 Extension at Blue Ridge Regional Airport. The extension project will increase the length of the runway from 5,002’ to 6,000’, as well as address needs such as land and easement acquisition, exit taxways, safety areas, NAVAIDS, lighting, grading, and the relocation of aVDOT road.
Working closely with the FAA and DOAV staff, the EAevaluated and justified the purpose and need, viablealternatives, affected environment, and environmentalconsequences. Even though we had to maintaincoordination, reviews, and conduct a public hearingduring the COVID-19 pandemic, E&A was still able tocomplete this process well ahead of schedule, in just 15months. E&A staff maintains a great relationship with the responsible FAA official and would greatly benefit the Airport for any necessary NEPA work.
