US 460 DECELERATION LANE AND FARMINGDALE LANE IMPROVEMENTS
The project goal was to improve the safety of the US460/Farmingdale Lane intersection with necessary improvements as well as to upgrade the private road section of Farmingdale Lane to public road standards. This project included a deceleration lane and improved intersection design at 460/Farmingdale Lane with widening and horizontal curve improvements to improve existing private Farmingdale Lane to a public road with grading and drainage improvements. E&A coordinated VDOT and Town of Blacksburg meetings and review coordination throughout the project. A VDOT traffic control plan and land use application was completed as part of the design project. The project included grading, pavement design, stormwater quantity and quality design, erosion/sediment control, signage, marking plans, and traffic control plans.
E&A employed a local survey subconsultant for right-of-way dedication to the Town of Blacksburg and designed and facilitated a VDOT swap of public land to the Town for the private road to become public. E&A staff also completed easements for a bike trail through the intersection in lieu of sidewalk at this location.
